Pastor Ian Anderson concludes the series ‘Committed’ …’to Self ‘(Fulfilling God’s Word for Me)’
Reading from Joshua 1 v 1 – 9
Joshua in Chapter 24 reminds the people of God’s faithfulness, how he had brought them to the promised land. In this discourse Joshua makes a significant commitment ‘Choose this day whom you will serve, …But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.’ v.15
Some of us however, have a spirit like Terah, Abram’s father who never saw the fulfilment of God’s promise to Abram because he chose to settle. Genesis 11:31
Have you like Joshua been given specific direction for your life by God but you have settled.
Look to serve in the ministry, have faith that God has prepared good works for us. God wants us to reach our full potential in and through Him.
“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:50 ESV The only way we will reach that potential is through relationship with Jesus and He tells us it can be closer and deeper than natural family relationships.
God has so much for us.
There are reasons we feel stuck, discouraged, or adrift.
There are reasons people lose their enthusiasm for life.
There are reasons God’s people lose their hope, their sense of purpose and their joy.
There are reasons life becomes just one long bore.
First, people have lost sight of who God made them to be and what He designed them to do. Secondly, as a result people are not actively, intentionally and purposefully pursuing what the Father has planned and desired for them.
If we truly want to pursue and reach our full potential, then we must face up to the following two truths:
Truth #1: God has placed more within you than you realise.
Truth #2: You have probably settled for the life you have now.
Are we settled? Not living out theGod given purpose and potential of our life?
Most of us are settling for satisfactory. Where God wants us to live an outstanding, abundant and full life.
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
Psalms 139:13-16 ESV
Our purpose on this earth is to develop our God-given potential, commit to that which we have vowed, commit to fulfilling God’s word in our life to the best of our ability, so we can impact the world around us for Christ.
If you have ever wondered why you are on this earth, understand that God has placed each of us here as a unique person with a unique mission aimed at establishing and extending His kingdom ‘on earth as it is in heaven.’
Are you committed to the personal word God has spoken over and into your life?
We pray that we will be committed to God and fulfilling the potential He has for us. Laying ourselves down and not allowing ourselves to be settled and satisfied with how things are. He has more! Commit to fulfilling the Godly potential in our lives John 15:1-17
