Dave Lucas shares a final message for 2019, titled ‘Continue to Marvel’. Reading from Luke 2:41-52.
Jesus is now 12 years old, we see that it was traditional that Mary & Joseph travelled to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.
Jesus unbeknownst to Mary & Joseph decided to stay behind at the temple in Jerusalem. It tells us that they often travelled in large pilgrim groups and had assumed he was amongst them travelling.
3 days of worry and no doubt panic, praying to God to help them find Jesus. They did not anticipate that they might find him at the temple. They are astonished to see him listening and answering to the teachers of the day.
“And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.”
Luke 2:47 ESV
The teachers, his parents were astonished. So may we be also astonished when Jesus speaks to us.
His parents did not understand things that Jesus told them (v.50). There are things that we do not understand immediately, but pray that God would give you the understanding whether in part of completion at a point to allow him to reveal himself to us.
We see that Jesus, despite his greatness still was submissive to his parents (v.51). We too, must submit to our Heavenly Father.
Let us be thankful for his comfort, his presence. We should be thankful for what is yet to come.
We might know our future, but he does. We can look forward to his power being demonstrated within us.
May we look back and like Mary store up and treasure all the things in our heart. But we also look forward, we search diligently for him.
We might find it difficult to understand or to study scripture. But if we search for him, he will reveal himself to us. Let us marvel at the wonders that he will perform.
