The viper is a metaphor of temptation. We must not be tempted to do good for the sake of doing good, but to do good for the glory of God.
Two greatest commandments:
Mark 12:29-31. you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: you shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

Will you be like the chaff and blown by the wind or will you be like the grain and fall at the feet of the winnower, fall at the feet of Jesus?
