Matthew 10:5-15 v.7-8
“And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.” Matthew 10:7-8
Holy Spirit is living in every believer but He is not resting on every believer. He lives in us for our benefit to change us, empower, enable, conform and transform us into the likeness of Jesus. He rests on us for the benefit of others to change the environments and atmosphere where we find ourselves for the better and glory of God the Father,
Psalm 27:4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:(the thing I seek most) that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
What one thing would you ask for? Because that one thing tells us the state of our hearts. It’s a sobering question that brings some focus.
Tells us the thing most important to David, who was in Acts 13:22 described as a man after God’s own heart. , ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.
‘Dwell’ means to stay, rest, stand, abide in other words it is not something we can do as a quick fix, a quick hit there has to be an intentionality.
Jesus does not invite us to try Him, the invitation is to walk, to stay, to rest to abide. John 15:4 abide in me and I knew as the branch cannot bear fruit by self unless it’s a bite in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.
Jesus was fully God and fully man but He chose to do all that He did within the constraints of being human with two important requirements. (1)He was without sin (2)Empowered by Holy Spirit
If He did it as God we could just stand and look because it would be out of our reach and beyond our nature abilities but because He did it as a man submitted to God, it does not allow us to stay the same because we too are empowered by the Holy Spirit and can live our lives in humble submission to God.
You see most of us are not prepared to wait. We should not be too quick to hear Him speak or too quick to listen.
Judges 3:25 …they waited until the point of embarrassment…They waited a very long time until, they were embarrassed…Waited until it would have been shameful to wait any longer
We used to sing a song ‘I could sing of your love forever’ and some Christians would be happy to do that but it is not what God has called us to, even when we do dwell in His presence.
The transfiguration of Jesus Peter, James & John. Peter said Lord it is good for us to be here, in other words ‘could stay in their sweet spot forever’ …they no longer saw anyone else with them but Jesus only. They hadn’t realised they had already got the presence, more than that the one who is present, Jesus.
First thing that happened after they came down off the mountain is encounter a demon possessed boy. You don’t get bigger than that. This was the boy of which the people said ‘We brought him to your disciples and they could not heal him.’
Mary and Martha – Luke 10:42
…But few things are needed or indeed only one
…There is only one thing worth being concerned about
…Only one thing is necessary
The first thing that Jesus did when He came was release His presence. My words to you are Spirit and they are life Jesus releases presence when He speaks The word of God is made flesh but whenever Jesus speaks the Father’s heart, it becomes spirit.
