The Monarchy Never Ends 110922

Key Text: Isaiah 6:1-8

King Uzziah in the Bible was one of the good kings of Judah.(Southern Region) His father was King Amaziah and his mother was a woman named Jecoliah, from Jerusalem. Uzziah was the father of King Jotham and ministering during Uzziah’s reign were the prophets Hosea, Isaiah, Amos and Jonah.

Isaiah had been born in a palace and brought up in court. He was the grandson of the king Joash and was therefore,  a cousin of King Uzziah which is one reason why he was so devasted by Uzziah’s death.

King Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign and he reigned for 52 years in Judah. 2 Chronicles 26:4 records ‘He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord” according to all that his father Amaziah had done.’

He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper2 Chronicles 26:5..

Unfortunately, after Zechariah died, Uzziah made some bad choices later in his life.

The prosperity of King Uzziah’s reign appeared to have weakened the national character. Deep seated immorality was eating out the heart of the nation.

The King was dead and feelings of dread and fear of an uncharted tomorrow, began to overwhelm the nation. With robes of righteousness wrapped tight many ran to the temple for consolation. As did David when his heart was overwhelmed, so did Isaiah and we too need to run to God for our hope and consolation.

The Queen is dead and if we do not turn again to God, this is a nation where feelings of dread and fear of an uncharted tomorrow will begin to overwhelm the people.

As Isaiah enters the temple scenes of the outside tragedy and Uzziah’s coffin fade from the prophets view as his spiritual vista is consumed by the presence of God. Isaiah becomes increasingly aware that he stands in the presence of a Holy, all consuming God.

And so it is with us; we come at times with such despair and dismay. Then we sing and begin to turn our focus away from the natural and allow His presence to lift us.

In the year that Queen Elizabeth died, a woman who came to be known for her commitment to Jesus, declaring that ‘Christ is the King I serve’ in a time of uncertainty about the future. I wonder is God asking, ‘Who shall I send?’

After hearing the word of God we are either harder toward it or softer toward it but we cannot remain neutral.

Is God using a national mourning to call people, a nation back to Himself?

There is no abdication, there is no death.

Constitutional monarchy dies, changes, evolves, is inherited and it does come to an end.

There is only one monarchy that truly never ends …Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Revelation 22:13

Every created thing comes to an end but the monarchy of Christ Jesus never ends.
